Nevermore re-issues their first three albums [14 Aug 2006|04:16pm]

NEVERMORE Nevermore, In Memory & The Politics Of Ecstasy re-issues to include exclusive bonus material!

Seattles NEVERMORE have opened their vault unveiling previously unreleased material to be included as bonus content for the September 5th re-issues of their three early releases: Nevermore, In Memory, and The Politics Of Ecstasy. All three classics are presented with revamped artwork, as well as extended liner notes written by metals premier journalist Martin Popoff with contributions from frontman Warrel Dane. All three releases and their bonus content have been remastered as well, intensifying the audio experience.

After the break-up of cult metal band Sanctuary, former members vocalist Warrel Dane, bassist Jim Sheppard, and guitarist Jeff Loomis formed the band NEVERMORE, signing with the then-young metal label Century Media and releasing their self-titled debut in 1995. Century Media is proud to present the original release expanded with five bonus tracks, as well the video for What Tomorrow Knows.

The debuts follow-up was the darker, more melancholic In Memory EP which expanded the bands daringly intense, technically flawless style with an entirely new dimension that is still part of their unique sound. Now featuring exclusive demo recordings, todays version of the EP reaches album length and is an essential collectors item for long-term fans as well as a great starting point for new ones.

NEVERMOREs second full-length album, 1996s The Politics Of Ecstasy, was graced by a monstrous sound and featured songs that have remained fan favorites and in the bands live set. The bands classic cover of Judas Priests Love Bites as well as the video for Next In Line expands this masterly work of lyrical cynicism, depressing moods and brilliant musicianship.

Describe your introduction to Nevermore: First heard Politics when it came out because someone had told me it sounded like Queensryche (which it did not, of course). I kind of liked it, but not enough to buy it (broke uni student back then) and forgot about the band till I heard Poison Godmachine on a Century Media ID compilation in early 1999. Went completely crazy about it, bought the Dreaming Neon Black album, bought a tshirt, listened to DNB about a billion times, bought Politics (and later the first two) was lucky enough to see them on their first (and only) Australian tour a few months later, drank with Warrel Dane at a pub up the road before the show, became a completely fanatical fan and have been ever since.

Favorite three Nevermore albums:

  1. Dreaming Neon Black

  2. This Godless Endeavour

  3. Politics of Ecstacy

Favorite ten Nevermore songs:

  • In Memory

  • The Death of Passion

  • No More Will

  • Beyond Within

  • Seven Tongues of God

  • The Learning

  • This Godless Endeavour

  • Born

  • Dead Heart in a Dead World

  • Seed Awakening

Least favorite Nevermore album: Nevermore - S/T (though it's still very good)

Have you ever seen Nevermore live / met the band, and if so please describe: Saw them live at the Red Room in Brisbane, shitty little pub with a crowd half full of people that had never heard Nevermore before. By the end of the first few songs (Beyond Within, Death of Passion then Next in Line I think it was... oh sheer bliss!) it was like a meeting of the Nevermore fanclub, though. Met all of the band members, but spent the most time with Warrel before the show - he was standing at the door really, really drunk, greeting everyone and my friend and I walked up to him, he saw my first album shirt and went "woah, cool shirt dude" - and we didn't recognise him (only had album pics to go by, and he'd lost a LOT of weight!) and sort of went "cool dude", thinking he was a roadie or something (we were pretty wasted, it must be said) and then once we got inside, we discovered that it was him at the door. We cruised back out, apologised for not recognising him and offered to drag him to the pub up the road while the support band was playing and buy him some drinks! Warrel obliged, and after he chilled out an angry footyhead ("you're a bloody yank aren't you!") by showing him how to do "the pentagram" with his hands (!) we spent the next 3/4 an hour drinking with Warrel, hearing stories about touring with King Diamond and Arch Enemy, as well as how cool Hansi Kursch was and how uncool Jon Schaffer was. The manager had to come looking for warrel to show him the setlist and all that, and we even got to comment on the setlist and bitch about No More Will not being included. BRILLIANT night which ended with Seven Tongues of God and Warrel dragging everyone up on stage, with my mate and I standing on each side of Warrel in a kind of arms-around-the-shoulders huddle singing the chorus with him. God I wish they'd come back... oh, and I interviewed him a few months ago for the local music magazine I write for, and due to Warrel's extreme intoxication throughout that entire tour, he didn't remember me, unfortunately, haha. Still great to talk to that brilliant philosophical madman again, even if he is (due to his health) not quite as wild as he used to be (though he assured me he is just as crazy, just not as drunk).

List your 5 favorite bands aside from Nevermore:

  • Blind Guardian

  • Iron Maiden

  • Opeth

  • Carcass

  • Queensryche

  • List your 5 favorite non-metal musicians or bands:
  • Jane's Addiction

  • Van Halen (DLR)

  • The Cure

  • Depeche Mode

  • Turbonegro

  • In what way would you like to torture Kelly Gray: I'd uncloak Kelly "Worf" Gray's own Klingon Bird of Prey over his house and start photorping his lounge room while he was in it.

    Tell us either:

    - Something we may not know about Nevermore's past. >>> Back in '99 Warrel told me the band's biggest problem was being caught between the too very disparate (but now largely reconciled) metal scenes then extant - the old schoolers thought Nevermore were "too '90s" while the extreme metallers thought they were "too '80s buttrock"!

NEVERMORE, BEHEMOTH, WATCH THEM DIE, MANNTIS Confirmed For CHRISTMAS BALLS - Oct. 25, 2005

Seattle's NEVERMORE have been confirmed as the headliners of The Century Family's second annual Christmas BallS, set to take place Wednesday, December 7 at the Key Club in Hollywood, California. Support at the show will come from BEHEMOTH, WATCH THEM DIE and MANNTIS.

Following last year's successful event, The Century Family's evil elves have put their heads together to come up with even more fantastically diabolic devilry. Already busy assembling stockings filled with heavy metal trimmings, they are scouring the workshop for musical goodies for all attendees. Santa's selected outstanding surprises to raffle throughout the night, and one lucky winner will go home with a brand new Schecter guitar.

Tickets for the Christmas BallS are available at The Key Club box office, or at Ticketmaster.

The Century Family includes Century Media Records, Nuclear Blast America, and Liquor and Poker Music. Century Media, the flagship label of the Century Family, is an upstart independent hard rock/heavy metal label founded in 1988. Its American branch opened three years later. With nine offices around the globe, the label employs more than 150 people worldwide. Featuring a rich catalog of such influential acts as ICED EARTH and OPETH, the label's leading artists today include SHADOWS FALL, LACUNA COIL, GOD FORBID and ARCH ENEMY.

Describe your introduction to Nevermore: Dead Heart in a Dead World and Enemies of Reality (the original shitty sounding mix) were the two albums from them that I heard in an effort to serach for good metal and broaden my eager ears. I went from intrigued, to hooked, and all the way to placing them as one of my big-time favorite bands especially after purchasing Dreaming Neon Black (that album is still a big-time favorite of mine, and Monica allow me to say I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend you check that album out).

Favorite three Nevermore albums:
This Godless Endeavor
Dreaming Neon Black
Dead Heart in a Dead World

Favorite ten Nevermore songs:
-The Godless Endeavor
-Final Product
-Poison Godmachine
-C.B.F.
-Enemies of Reality
-The Seven Tongues of God
-Beyond Within
-Narcosynthesis
-Believe in Nothing
-In Memory

Least favorite Nevermore album: I shall agree with Monica by quoting, "somehow 'least' and 'Nevermore' don't seem like they connect, at all" because she is sooooooooo right! My fave band have come out with seven awesome albums, too awesome for any to be a "least favorite"!

Have you ever seen Nevermore live / met the band, and if so please describe: I saw them at GIGANTOUR, even though only very few people got to see them, they played a ripping set! And Steve Smyth noticed me chanting and singing my ass off along to all the songs and he signaled and smiled. I met them at the FYE booth while they were signing. I had them autograph their pics page on the This Godless Endeavor album booklet as well as their page on the GIGANTOUR tourbook. Steve thanked me for singing along to all the songs, :) and as Warrell Dane signed my stuff I said props on the Porcupine Tree Deadwing tshirt he was wearing.

List your 5 favorite bands aside from Nevermore:
-Opeth
-Megadeth
-Death
-Dream Theater
-Pantera

List your 5 favorite non-metal musicians or bands:
-Alice in Chains
-Porcupine Tree
-Pink Floyd
-Soundgarden
-Katatonia (later stuff)

In what way would you like to torture Kelly Gray: Nah, he can live as long as he stays away from ever producing for heavy metal. As Warrell mentioned in his Metal Maniacs interview: "Kelly's a nice guy, but he ain't cut out for metal."

Describe your introduction to Nevermore: I think I started getting into them once I heard they were going to be on Opeth's tour, so that was fairly recent. *Blushes.* I'd always heard of them before, but I never actually made the effort to get into them. But better late than never, so here I am. I've been listening to This Godless Endeavor ever since Jeff (our lovely mod) sent it to me via AIM after I told him I went out to buy it but ended up not having enough money. If I had the money, I'd buy ALL of their CDs, but I think I'll just start with This Godless Endeavor for now. ;) And I get paid on Friday, so we'll see. Heh.

Favorite three Nevermore albums:
This Godless Endeavor... aaaaand, I have no idea what other albums because I've only heard a couple songs from 3 of their older albums so far. :\ Hey, at least I'm being honest.

Favorite ten Nevermore songs:

- "Medicated Nation"

- "Sell My Heart For Stones"
- "The Psalm Of Lydia"
- "This Godless Endeavor"
- "A Future Uncertain"
- "Dead Heart in a Dead World"
- "Believe In Nothing"
- "The River Dragon Has Come"

Least favorite Nevermore album: I don't know yet. But somehow "least" and "Nevermore" don't seem like they connect. At all.

Have you ever seen Nevermore live / met the band, and if so please describe: No. But I WOULD'VE SEEN them on the Opeth tour (if I even go to that) in October, if all the lucky fucking people on the East Coast didn't grab their dates. STUPID CONFLICTING TOUR CRAP! UGH! It would've been awesome: Opeth (my favorite band in all the universe) and Nevermore (a band I'm just getting into which is rising high on the "favorite bands" tier). *Sighs.* Maybe one day...

Describe your introduction to Nevermore: There were two. First, back in my nu-metal days, I heard "I Am the Dog" on a compilation, and hated it. I thought the intro was badass, but that the rest of the song sucked balls. Fast forward a few years to when I listen to actual metal. I was watching Headbanger's Ball(Yea, shutup), and the video came on for "Enemies of Reality". Having started playing guitar, I was floored by Jeff's shredding. Welcome to seemingly the only community on Livejournal devoted to the... well, whateverthefucktheysoundlike metal band Nevermore. Thrash, progressive, power... I don't know. To be honest, I consider them "technical thrash-influenced heavy metal," but that's just me.

Why is there no Nevermore community? Who knows. So, here it is. Now, I do ask that you fill out the member form [I hate the term 'application' when dealing with non-rating communities] simply so I get to know you better. I don't think it's really that long, and let's face it, filling stuff out is kind of fun!

I'll show you, it's only right I fill this fucker out too:

Name: Aiden Macleod.

Age: 21.

Location: Oxnard, CA - USA.

List any musical instruments you play: Not really, but I'd like to learn the drums so I can pull off some of the psychotic things Van does with double bass drums.

Describe your introduction to Nevermore: A friend told me a lot about them, and recommended picking up Dead Heart In A Dead World. I did, and at first only listened to a few tracks, like Narco, River Dragon, Engines, etc... And then one day, I put it on and listened from start to finish, and then again, and again, and again... And something strange happened. I'd never felt such an intense, unsatisfiable desire to obtain an entire bands discography before. So I went to Amazon.com, snagged up their self-titled, In Memory, Politics, and Dreaming, all for about 40 dollars w/shipping. I've been an apeshit little addict ever since.
